Overview

The PiMS system produces Acrobat Reader files (PDF) from the Real Time Reporting system and from PDM's website Service Request reporting.  These reports are generated and presented in a new browser window.  Many unwanted pop-up windows that display advertising use the same technique.  Microsoft Explorer and Mozilla Firefox have options to block these "pop-ups".  When these options are in effect, the PDF files will not be displayed.  Follow the instructions below to adjust the pop-up blocking option.

Microsoft Explorer (Windows XP SP2 or higher)

To configure Internet Explorer to allow for PDM's pop-up windows but continue to suppress advertisements, select the Tools menu option and select Options.  Select the Privacy Tab.  In the section "Pop-up Blocker" at the bottom of the screen, the option to Block Pop-ups is probably turned on.  Select the "Setting" option.  Enter the server name and select the Allow button.  The real-time reporting server will be a server within your organization or if you are want to view PDM's Service Request reports enter "pdmsoftware.com" as the server name.

Microsoft Explorer (Windows 2000 or XP SP1 or lower)

There are no options in these versions of Microsoft Explorer so Third Party Protection Tools or the Yahoo Toolbar is probably installed.  Refer to these sections below.

Third Party Protection Tools

There are many security protection programs available and most have the ability to block pop-ups.  Refer to the products documentation.

Yahoo Toolbar in Internet Explorer

You may also have the Yahoo toolbar installed in your Internet Explorer.  Next to the "Search Web" button, there is an icon that looks like a small window.  This is the Yahoo pop-up blocker.  Click on the button and uncheck "Enable Popup Blocker".

Mozilla Firefox

There is another option you may wish to consider.  PDM uses the new Firefox browser (an alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer)  which is an open source program that is being widely accepted in the industry.  You can download it by visiting www.getfirefox.com.  Note:  Both Internet Explorer and Firefox can be used on the computer at the same time.  

When a pop-up is first presented, Firefox presents a yellow bar.  Click on the bar and allow the report to be displayed.

If you are using Firefox and have already blocked pop-ups, select the Tools menu option and select Options.  Highlight Web Features.  Click on the  "Allowed Sites" button for Block Popup Windows.  Enter the server name or pdmsoftware.com in the Address to the Web Site and select Allow.  The real-time reporting server will be a server within your organization or if you want to view PDM's Service Request reports enter "pdmsoftware.com" as the address.
