Point of Service and Diagnosis/Procedure
Before any of the billing can take place the system requires an account. The account is created when the user selects a function that adds a new visit or new order. The initial account is added when a visit is established for all encounters with the facility, and each encounter creates a visit.
When a visit is recorded, the system evaluates all of the patient's existing accounts to determine if there is an active account that the visit matches. An active account is one that has not been closed/discharged as of the visit date. If there is a match, the visit is associated to the active account. If there is not an existing account, a new account is automatically created.
The matching of visits to accounts is facility defined. The facility defines rules when an account should be generated or if an attempt should be made to find an existing account. There is always, at least, one visit associated with an account. Each account can have multiple visits.
