Authorized Physician and Caregivers
The Authorization Physician and Caregiver file contains authorized caregivers who are allowed to be selected as caregivers for the patient and/or visit. These would be any referring MD or attending MD and any consultants or other healthcare types that are entered for a patient schedule, visit or billing requirement.
- Identify your caregivers (nurses, PA's, physicians, referring physicians, etc.)
- Identify any alternate numbers, such DEA or UPIN, NPI numbers, or license numbers that are needed for reporting and/or billing
- Assign up to eight (8) character code for each caregiver or you can have PiMS assign a sequential number. The unique caregiver ID can be entered or automatically assigned. It is used to access other functions and to add additional codes for a caregiver for billing such as the UPIN number and assigning positions if necessary. This code can be seen on reports and displays.
Add A Authorized Caregiver/Physician
- Select Physican/Caregivers from the File menu.
- Select Add Authorized Caregiver.
- The first screen will display a field to enter the Authorized Member ID. This is a unique ID for a caregiver. Enter a unique entry in this field. Or press the NEW button to automatically assign a caregiver ID. You will first need to set up the Number Assignment to put option in place. The unique caregiver ID entered here or automatically assigned, is is used to access other functions to add additional codes for a caregiver for billing such as the UPIN number and assigning positions if necessary.
- Press OK to continue to the next screen.
- The authorized caregiver screen detail displays. Tab to the Last Name field and enter the caregiver's last name.
- Tab to the First Name field and enter the caregiver's first name.
- Tab to the Caregiver Code field, enter a user defined code for the caregiver. You must enter a code in this field, otherwise the caregiver will not display in the caregiver list for selection. This code can be the one entered in the previous screen. This code will be the one displayed and used for caregiver selection. If you chose the option to automatically assign a caregiver ID, (NEW), then this field will display the new ID.
- Enter the Telephone and other contact numbers if necessary.
- Enter caregiver's NPI number and if you need the UPIN, License and Medicaid number codes for special payer requirements.
10. Enter the DEA code if needed for billing or reporting. Required if using PiMS RX - Pharmacy module.
11. Press enter or select OK, a message will appear at the bottom of your screen. "Please review this data before continuing", this allows you to review all the data before you commit the information.
12. Press or select OK a second time, this completes the function.
Update and View Authorized Caregivers
Once you have added the caregiver to the system, additional maintenance functions are used to update, view and delete the authorized caregivers The MemberID is necessary to access the record for changes for that caregiver. The UPIN number is necessary for all billing claim forms.
