Installing PiMS Application and Database Configuration
If PDM is not hosting PiMS for you and you will be installing PiMS on your own server, follow these steps to install PiMS:
Before you begin Please read these notes
Before you begin:
-
Determine where the PiMS release will be installed. You will need at least 350 megabytes of disk space. The disk space requirements must be increased by the size of the files in the old \PDMPIMS\EXTRACT\ directory. These are customer specific files generated by the PiMS nightly process. In a production environment, the disk space requirements could be 2-4 gigabytes.
-
Have the PiMS customer key, which was provided by PDM with the release letter.
Steps to install a new PiMS instance:
-
Install the software. installstep1
-
Execute PiMS setup program.
You will need the Customer Key, PiMS entity and the connection string for the database server. The PiMS setup process will present dialogues to collect this information. Once all of the data has been entered, press the Install button to generate the necessary PiMS support files. This process is required for PiMS to generate the database scripts needed for a complete installation.
Define and generate the PiMS databases.
The PiMS databases must be defined and generated. The database table space, permissions, and other required database information must be completed before the initial load of the PiMS baseline data. When the Install button is pressed, which should only be done after all of the other dialogs have been completed, a file named PIMSINIT.SQL will be created in the appropriate database directory. This file contains all of the SQL definitions for the PiMS databases.
