Installing PiMS Thin Client on a Workstation
Follow the following instructions for each workstation that will be using the thin client services to access PiMS.
- Read PiMS Thin Client Technology if you are not familiar with the thin client technology.
- The PiMS Thin Client must first be started on the server--see Installing the PiMS Thin Client Server for directions.
- PiMS Thin Client uses the folder \PiMSThin on the C: drive. If there is an existing folder named \PiMSThin, it must be deleted before this program is executed.
- Execute the SETUP program from the \pimsthin folder on the PiMS CD. Note: This software should not be installed on the server, but the contents of the folder on the CD could be moved to a folder that can be easily downloaded for client installations. Note: PDM may provide you a link to our FTP to obtain the most current installation program.
- The installation takes only a few minutes to complete. It will setup a folder with a PiMS icon installed. This icon will need to be modified to start with the appropriate PiMS frame and server address.
- The PiMS icons will need to have the shortcut modified to reflect the TCP/IP address of the PiMS server or a domain server name (DNS) name. This is accomplished by changing (or adding) the ā-sā parameter on the NASMAINP parameters. An example would be NASMAINP NASDEFLM ās10.10.10.10. Note that there is no space between the ās and the IP address.
