Installing PiMS Thin Client on a Workstation

Follow the following instructions for each workstation that will be using the thin client services to access PiMS.

  1. Read PiMS Thin Client Technology if you are not familiar with the thin client technology.
  2. The PiMS Thin Client must first be started on the server--see Installing the PiMS Thin Client Server for directions.
  3. PiMS Thin Client uses the folder \PiMSThin on the C: drive. If there is an existing folder named \PiMSThin, it must be deleted before this program is executed.
  4. Execute the SETUP program from the \pimsthin folder on the PiMS CD. Note:  This software should not be installed on the server, but the contents of the folder on the CD could be moved to a folder that can be easily downloaded for client installations.  Note: PDM may provide you a link to our FTP to obtain the most current installation program.
  5. The installation takes only a few minutes to complete. It will setup a folder with a PiMS icon installed. This icon will need to be modified to start with the appropriate PiMS frame and server address.
  6. The PiMS icons will need to have the shortcut modified to reflect the TCP/IP address of the PiMS server or a domain server name (DNS) name. This is accomplished by changing (or adding) the ā€œ-sā€ parameter on the NASMAINP parameters. An example would be NASMAINP NASDEFLM –s10.10.10.10. Note that there is no space between the –s and the IP address.
