Profile Definition Approach

This section provides an overview of the steps necessary to properly define PiMS Scheduling profiles. For each profile tips and guidelines are given. Detailed information on creating each profile entry can be found later in this manual.

1. Decide on the Group ID to Use

All information entered in the PiMS Scheduling Profiles is organized by the Group ID. You will need to decide on a code which will be used during Profile definition. Any number of Groups can be set up and the corresponding Profiles belonging to the Group can be separately maintained by the owners. For example, each clinic in a hospital can be a Group. Each clinic then has privileges and rights to their set of Profiles and scheduling functionality.

2. Define the Access Group Profile

The Access Group Profile defines which outside Groups can have access to the Order Profiles, Calendars, and Views. To give access to other Groups, an entry must be defined in this Profile.

3. Define the Location Profile

All Resources must reference a physical location. Define the general location of all resources in the Location Profile. For example, the address and name of a hospital would be defined in the Location Profile, and the resources for the clinics that are located there would refer to it.

4. Define the Resource Profile

Decide which resources need to be managed. Also collect information about each resource schedules and each resource’s particular needs.

For each resource, define a resource Profile. This profile defines the owner and general characteristics of the resource.

5. Define the Resource's Availability Calendar Profile

Define each resource's availability.

6. Define the Holiday/Meeting Profile

Holiday/Meeting Calendars define when a resource is not available. Each resource can be associated with a "shared" holiday/meeting calendar which usually defines facility holidays and a "personal" holiday/meeting calendar which defines times that resource is unavailable.

7. Define the Order Profiles to be Scheduled

An order profile must exist for everything that will be scheduled within a group. Prior to creating an order profile be sure to create all necessary resources first.

8. Define the Order Component Profiles

Add resources or resource pools as components to the order profile. At least one component must be defined for an order profile.
