Relational Database
Supports the standard relational database systems; Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and SyBase SQL Anywhere. PDM has just announced full support for the open source database system MySQL 5.x.

- PiMS is developed using Windows graphical interface which provides a consistent interface.
-
Training time and costs are reduced.
-
Deployment time is reduced. The PiMS programs and database definitions can be installed in a few hours.
Web Based Solution or Installed on Server
Web Based Solution
PDM has developed the ability for PiMS to be used across the internet. Our web based thin client implementation allows PiMS client workstations to access the PiMS server via a secured connection. Also, the user interface is exactly the same as our server based (smart client) implementation.
Installed on Server (Smart Client)
PiMS uses a development approach that combines the best features of the thin client and the fat client. We call it a "Smart Client".
-
PiMS does not require any workstation configuration. Only the PiMS icon is defined on the workstation desktop.
-
The PiMS application is kept on a application server. There is one place to install PiMS and it is easy to upgrade to new releases.
-
PiMS was developed using smaller application modules to reduce load time.
-
PiMS loads applications modules as necessary, reducing load time and traffic on the LAN. For example, the module to schedule an appointment is loaded to the workstation memory only when the Schedule Appointment function is accessed for the first time.
Real-Time Problem Determination
-
Error logs are automatically generated and e-mailed to PDM.
-
PiMS has a trace facility that allows the review of all data from databases and dialogs at the time a problem occurs.
-
PiMS uses a relational database that allows PDM to run queries for problems and to quickly verify the integrity of the database.
-
PiMS has performance monitoring tools that allow PDM to determine if and where there is a problem. PDM's technical staff can see if the problem is in the LAN, the database, or application.
Consistent Graphical Interface
-
PiMS is developed using Windows © interface standards.
-
In addition, PDM has developed additional standards. We have standards for consistent buttons, calendars, and other controls. We also have standards for terminology and abbreviations.
-
PiMS has the ability to open multiple windows for a patient. In addition, you can open multiple windows for multiple patients at once.
-
PiMS provides the ability to move around the functions without re-identifying the patient. For example, if you are viewing patient demographics, you can decide to view the patient financial history. The history is presented without you having to re-identify the patient--PiMS knows which patient you are working with.
Robust Interface Facility
-
Interfaces To and From PiMS both for conversions and external systems such as GL and clinical products
-
Logging of transactions that are inbound to PiMS
-
Error Logging and Recovery to capture records for exception processing
-
Interface patients, guarantors, accounts, charges, payments/adjustmens, insurance information, and claims from external applications
-
Used for conversions to ensure PiMS accuracy and validation of data
-
Compatible with HL7 standards
